AVBA Juniors USA teams are formed on a competitive tryout basis or personal invitation to play on a team. Tryouts for AVBA USA volleyball are generally held the end of October or beginning of November. Potential players should attend a designated tryout for their appropriate age level. Prior to tryouts players must register with USA Volleyball, see instruction link below. Tryouts will consist of players completing a variety of drills allowing us to assess their athletic ability and skill level. Following tryouts selected players will receive a commitment letter. Tryouts are open to anyone; however, each team must have a majority of players that reside within the Ankeny School District in order to meet City of Ankeny guidelines for gym rentals.

Registration guidelines from Iowa Region

BEFORE THE TRYOUT

Using the Login button above, go online and complete the membership application process, either as a new member or renewing member.

1. Choose Tryout Membership. The fee is $38.

2. Indicate 'UNDECIDED' under Club Affiliation. When you are selected and accept you may then go back and change to the club you are joining.

3. Payment can be done online by credit card (MasterCard or Visa) or send a check to the Region Office. (Payable to: Iowa Region Volleyball.)

4. When you finish the Registration process print the confirmation page and take a copy to all Tryouts and give to the club you choose. You must also print and fill out the Medical History Form (part of online registration process) and take a copy with you to all tryouts.

5. Once the payment has been received either on line or in the Region Office the player will become a member with a current status.

AFTER THE TRYOUT

Once a player is selected for a team or club they can go back on line and indicate their club of choice and upgrade from a tryout membership to a full membership. No further fee is charged.

If a player is not selected at a tryout they can send and email requesting an $18 refund. Iowa Region Recruiting and Tryout Policies:

1. A club or team may offer a player a position in their club or team at anytime. They should use the Player/ Club Commitment letter.

2. Players who are invited to play on a team may sign a commitment letter at anytime. Once the commitment letter is signed a player cannot attend any other club's tryouts. The player is committed to the team they signed with for the entire season.

3. The player can not be forced to sign or commit to the club or team before the following deadlines. Clubs who extend offers must keep offered position open until the same deadlines listed below.

A. Offer Period for 15U and older. I understand that if I tryout for a 15U or older club team that I have until 4 PM on the Monday following the State of Iowa Girls High School Volleyball Tournament to make my final commitment to a club. For tryouts which occur after that date, I have until 4 PM on the Monday following the tryout to inform the club if I accept the offer. The club will have to hold that position available for me, once the offer is made until the above name deadlines.

B. Offer Period for 14U and younger. I understand that if I tryout for a 14U or younger club team that I have until 4 PM on the Monday following the first weekend in November to make my final commitment to a club. For tryouts which occur after that date, I have until 4 PM on the Monday following the tryout to inform the club if I accept the offer. The club will have to hold that position available for me, once the offer is made until the above name deadlines.

Iowa Region Recruiting and Tryout Policies Penalties:

Falsification of Letter of Commitment. If I falsify any part of this Letter of Commitment, including the date, I understand that I am subject to suspension for the entire 2007-08 season.

Only one (1) Letter of Commitment Permitted. A player who signs a Letter of Commitment with more than one club is subject to suspension for the entire 2007-08 season. I understand that if I back out of this commitment, or attend another tryout, I forfeit the right and eligibility for participation in the Iowa Region Junior Regional Championships for this season. This will also eliminate the player from attending USAV National Championships.

Beginning the 2008/2009 season, coaches or club directors who violate the recruiting policy by forcing kids to verbally commit prior to the deadlines submitted by the Iowa Region will have to release all team members for that particular team. These players will then have the option to play or tryout for other teams. Furthermore the team or age division in which the violation occurred, will not be allowed to play at the Qualifying division at the end-of-the-year Iowa Regionals tournament.
