Bruce Johnson
Bruce Johnson is a lifelong resident of Ankeny
and was a founding board member of the AVBA adult club in 1988. He
has played coed and men’s volleyball since 1980 and was a team
member of several state champion teams in the Iowa Parks and Rec “A”
division. Bruce was also instrumental in starting the AVBA Juniors
program in the mid 1990’s.
Bruce has been involved
in the administration of the club and has been a head and
assistant coach for 14U, 15U, and 16U teams. Bruce believes success in
volleyball comes from building each team members individual skills
as well as developing team skills.
When he is not coaching volleyball Bruce supports the
Ankeny High School Wrestling team as a scorekeeper at local
tournaments. He also keeps busy at his real job as a farmer just
north of Ankeny.
Candice
Johnson
Candice Johnson began playing volleyball with
the AVBA AAU and USA programs from 1995 to 1999.
Candi played her senior year for IPVA in 2000 on the
18U team. She also played varsity for Ankeny High school her Junior and Senior years. Throughout
her playing career she has filled many team roles
including setter, leftside hitter, and defensive
specialist.
After attending college at
Oklahoma State University, Candi moved back to Ankeny and
began
coaching during the 2006 season for Iowa Power
Volleyball Alliance (IPVA) as an assistant on the 16U team. They traveled to many major tournaments including
Presidents Day in Omaha, the MidEast Qualitier in
Indianapolis, and the Northern Lights Qualifier in
Minneapolis.
In 2007 she joined the AVBA
club as the 15U head coach. The team ended the season on a high note playing up an age division and
placing second in the 16U Silver Division at Iowa Regional's. In 2008 as 16U head coach her team placed
12th out of 96 at the President's Day tournament in Minneapolis. Candi is an IMPACT certified
coach for USA Volleyball, as well
as a certified referee and scorekeeper. Candi continues to enjoy playing the game on both a
women's and co-ed adult team in Des Moines.
Wendy
Moeckly
Wendy is a 1999 graduate of Ankeny High School,
where she played volleyball throughout her high school career. She
also played for AVBA AAU & USA from 1995 to 1998. Her senior
year she played for Cyclone Cylect Volleyball in Ames. Following
high school she went to DMACC in Boone where she was the starting
setter for two years. She then went on the complete her college
degree at Iowa State.
Wendy first started coaching the
Cyclone Cylect 16 and under team in 2001. She then coached for AVBA USA. Since
returning to AVBA, she has coached 17U, 16U, and 15U.
Wendy lives
just north of Ankeny with her husband and young son. They enjoy
playing volleyball, boating, snow skiing, and working on their old
farmhouse
together.
