Information
AVBA is a non-profit organization and all USA
coaches are paid for their time committment to the teams. The
player fees you have to pay only cover a part of the total expenses
of the club. AVBA must pay to rent the gyms for practice times
and tournaments, pay a fee to the USA Regional Office to host a
tournament, insurance, and pay entry fees for Ankeny teams to play
in tournaments at other sites. Your player's entry fee and
profits from the concession stands during tournaments hosted in
Ankeny help cover all expenses for the Club.
When your team
hosts a tournament, volunteer to help so your coach is not stuck
doing all the work. All parents need to help set-up the school
before a tournament, work the concession stand during the
tournament, and help clean up the school when the event is
over. During the day, make sure people are treating out
schools with respect and not doing things to damage school
property.
Parent Behavior at Tournaments
One of the most important things we can
teach our children is sportsmanship and parents need to set a good
example. Be positive when cheering and do not yell at your
player or tell them what to do while on the court. Let the
coach do the coaching. Also, do not yell at line judges or
referees. Many times these are young players from other teams
and you would not like it if some 250-pound guy were screaming at
your daughter because he though she made a bad call. The kids
are out there learning how to play and have fun. Be supportive
and positive with all the player on your team. We want other
teams and towns to think of AVBA as a class act.
When leaving
tournaments in other towns, thank the host team for all their
work. Make sure your team picks up all the garbage around your
team area before you leave the school. Make sure your team
treats the other school with respect and only warms up with
volleyballs in designated areas.
Playing Time:
All participants are guaranteed equal training time in
practice to learn the sport of volleyball. The effort
demonstrated in practice and the skills the player learns will help
determine how much playing time occurs during tournaments. The
goal of AVBA is to provide each participant as much playing time as
possible during tournaments, but there are no
guarantees.

Instructions for Practice Times
- Arrive at least 5 minutes before your scheduled practice
time and get dressed and ready to practice. Do stretching
exercises in the hallway, but do not warm up with volleyballs in
the hallway. Do not go into the gym before it is time for
your practice to start because this causes disruptions for the
other team’s practice.
